Job summary

Supply Care Solutions is recruiting an experienced Team Manager to lead a Children’s Social Care team within Cambridgeshire County Council’s Families First service. You will drive safeguarding, risk management and complex case work while delivering high-quality services to children and families.

You will provide professional leadership, supervise social workers, and work in a multi-disciplinary, relationship-based environment to achieve positive outcomes. Experience with court work is essential.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Experience managing or supervising social workers.
  • Strong safeguarding and risk management experience.
  • Experience managing complex children and families cases.
  • Experience working in a statutory Children's Social Care environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures and case law.
  • Significant experience of court work and care proceedings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and complex workloads.
  • Confidence providing professional challenge and support to social workers.
  • Commitment to relationship-based and strengths-based practice.

  • Current Social Work England registration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership to a team delivering Children's Social Care services.
  • Ensure services respond to needs of children, young people, families and carers.
  • Plan, allocate and review workloads across the team.
  • Manage statutory timescales and service priorities.
  • Identify workload pressures and areas needing support.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to social workers.
  • Make autonomous professional decisions and manage risk.
  • If needed, deputise for District and Service Managers.
  • Develop and deliver team development plans aligned with service priorities.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies for integrated service delivery.
  • Support customer service matters and Stage 1 complaints.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through reviews, audits and learning.
  • Manage the team budget and delegated financial procedures.

About the Role

Supply Care Solutions is currently recruiting for an experienced Team Manager to join Cambridgeshire County Council's Families First service.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Children's Social Care professional with a strong background in safeguarding, risk management, team leadership, complex case management and court/care proceedings.

The successful candidate will provide strong professional leadership to a team of social workers, ensuring high-quality social care services are delivered to children, young people and families.

The service operates within a multi-disciplinary and relationship-based model, working closely with children, families, wider networks and partner agencies to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing and providing professional leadership to a team delivering Children's Social Care services.
  • Ensuring services respond effectively to the needs of children, young people, families and carers.
  • Planning, allocating and reviewing workloads across the team.
  • Ensuring statutory timescales and service priorities are effectively managed.
  • Identifying workload pressures, shortfalls and areas requiring additional support.
  • Providing professional supervision, guidance and support to social workers.
  • Making autonomous professional decisions and taking responsibility for managing risk.
  • Deputising for District and Service Managers when required.
  • Developing and delivering team development plans aligned with wider service priorities.
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies to support effective and integrated service delivery.
  • Supporting customer service matters and Stage 1 complaints where appropriate.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement through service review, auditing and learning.
  • Managing the team budget and ensuring delegated financial procedures are followed.
Safeguarding & Risk Management

The successful candidate will provide professional leadership and oversight in relation to safeguarding and complex risk, including:

  • Assessing and balancing risk and protective factors within a safeguarding framework.
  • Providing expert professional knowledge relating to safeguarding processes, policy and case law.
  • Providing specialist social work advice and guidance on complex cases.
  • Supporting social workers to make sound, evidence-based professional decisions.
  • Providing guidance on complex case and risk management.
  • Understanding when positive risk-taking may be appropriate.
  • Ensuring appropriate actions are identified, implemented and reviewed.
  • Contributing to case review, auditing and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring learning from reviews and audits is embedded into practice.
  • Overseeing interventions for children and families across a range of settings, including family homes.
Children & Families

The role will involve working within a multi-disciplinary environment, ensuring children and families receive effective and timely support.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing high-quality assessments and plans.
  • Supporting effective direct work with children and families.
  • Ensuring children's wishes, feelings and welfare remain central to decision-making.
  • Managing safeguarding concerns and complex risk.
  • Working closely with children, families and their wider networks.
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies and professionals.
  • Promoting relationship-based and strengths-based practice.
  • Supporting social workers to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
  • Ensuring statutory visits, assessments, reviews and interventions are completed within required timescales.
Court Work & Care Proceedings

The role includes court work and care proceedings, and candidates must be confident working within a statutory and legal framework.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing professional oversight of care proceedings and complex court work.
  • Supporting social workers with complex care proceedings.
  • Ensuring assessments, statements and reports prepared for court are high quality, analytical and accurate.
  • Ensuring court documentation is professionally presented and completed within required timescales.
  • Working effectively to court-directed timescales.
  • Attending court where required.
  • Providing professional challenge, guidance and support on cases progressing through court.
  • Applying relevant social work legislation, safeguarding frameworks, policies and case law.
Requirements
  • Significant experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Previous experience managing or supervising social workers.
  • Strong safeguarding and risk management experience.
  • Experience managing complex children and families cases.
  • Experience working within a statutory Children's Social Care environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding procedures.
  • Significant experience of court work and care proceedings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and complex workloads.
  • Confidence providing professional challenge, guidance and support to social workers.
  • Strong commitment to relationship-based and strengths-based practice.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary and partnership environment.
