Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a confident, inspiring manager to lead the WorkWell Coaching function, ensuring the smooth day-to-day delivery of the service across West Sussex.

You will oversee a dispersed team of Work & Health Coaches across multiple community locations, drive performance, data quality, and partnership working with NHS, VCSE and employers.

Qualifications

• Relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in coaching, employability, health, community services or related field.
• Level 2 English and Maths (C/4 or above) required.
• Experience supervising staff in a customer facing or community-based service.
• Proven ability to lead dispersed teams across multiple locations.
• Strong data quality, reporting and MI experience.
• Ability to build partnerships with external stakeholders (NHS, VCSE, employers).
• Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a dispersed team of Work & Health Coaches based across multiple community locations throughout West Sussex.
• Ensure consistent supervision, performance management and service delivery regardless of location, supporting staff to deliver high quality coaching interventions.
• Oversee referrals, triage, and caseload allocation, ensuring workflows are effectively managed and the team is well-positioned to meet programme objectives.
• Work closely with the WorkWell Service Manager to support mobilisation and ongoing development of the service, implementing new processes and contributing to continuous improvement.
• Responsible for performance management, staff development and ensuring compliance with KPIs and service level agreements.
• Ensure high standards of data quality and programme reporting, leading on MI submissions and audit-ready processes.
• Drive continuous improvement and partnership working, embedding consistent practice, implementing new processes and building relationships with NHS, VCSE and employers.

WorkWell is a health‑led early intervention programme delivered in partnership with the NHS, employers and community organisations. The service supports people with long term health conditions or disabilities to stay in work or return to employment, providing personalised coaching, practical adjustments and wellbeing support. This role is central to ensuring the programme delivers consistent, evidence‑based interventions that help residents thrive at work despite health challenges
