Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Team Leader - Underwriting Support to join our Insurance Operations team.

This role will sit within our EMEA COO function. The Service Delivery team plays a vital role in supporting the various business lines within our Underwriting team based in our London, UK office, while also undertaking transformation activities to broaden and better control the services provided. This exciting opportunity will allow the incumbent to play an integral part in strengthening the operational resilience of the services provided by the Operations function, while laying the foundations for a career in Insurance.

What you’ll be doing:
  1. Team Leadership: Leading and motivating your Underwriting Assistant team, fostering a service culture and continuous improvement mindset.
  2. Performance Management: Monitoring team performance, setting goals, and providing feedback to ensure high productivity, quality, and control.
  3. Training and Development: Identifying training needs and providing development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge. Personally undertaking all required training to understand the underwriting process, enabling effective support of the Underwriters.
  4. Data Collection and Entry: Coordinating and delivering data gathering, validation, and input, including transposing policy information from various documents to pricing platforms, policy administration systems, or other relevant systems.
  5. Documentation Management: Overseeing and delivering the preparation, organization, and maintenance of policy documentation and underwriting files, with a functional and working knowledge of ImageRight, Guidewire, Workflow, Document Management Systems, and pricing platforms.
Process Coordination:
  1. Coordinating with various departments and outsourced providers to facilitate smooth workflow and timely processing as defined within Standard Operating Procedures, including:
  • Managing policies from submission to booking.
  • Assisting in the preparation of renewals.
  • Managing cash balances.
  • Ensuring KPIs related to speed and quality are met.
Issue / Query Resolution:
  1. Supporting effective service delivery by resolving queries within established timeframes, including:
  • Following up on missing documents/information from brokers to ensure completeness.
  • Managing Outsourced providers' queries and errors.
  • Supporting compliance adherence by following SOPs and completing related controls, as well as assisting internal/external audits.
  • Providing input into the operational management dashboard accurately and timely.
Continuous Improvement:
  1. Working with other Underwriting Assistants in the Operations department to identify and document opportunities for efficiency improvements, including:
  • Performing functional testing of IT & process changes.
  • Participating in change/transformation activities as a Subject Matter Expert.
