Job description

Location: Carlisle

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Entry level Salary: £29,265.60 with a potential to earn up to £32,522.88 in sleep in shifts.

Experienced Salary: £29,811.60 with the potential to earn up to £33,068.88 in sleep in shifts

Specific Hours: 42 hours per week- shift pattern on rotation

We are currently seeking an experienced Residential Team Leader to join our services based in Carlisle.

North Lakes Children's Services is a well-established local provider of therapeutic residential care and education for boys aged 6-18. We improve the resilience, self-esteem and abilities of all the young people we work with.

Role Overview

The role of a Team Leader is to share in creating a purposeful, caring, therapeutic, learning environment for our young people, by the application of high professional standards of care and support for the young person's social, emotional and/or behavioural needs, and mental health and learning difficulties.

Main Duties
  1. To provide support/advice for staff as required and manage the daily running of the team.
  2. To support and deputise for deputy manager as and when required.
  3. To carry out supervisions of individuals and support for key workers.
  4. To manage monies for activities.
  5. To manage the daily needs of the children.
  6. To monitor and check staff they carry out their duties.
  7. To take part in rostered sleep-in duties, as required.
  8. To develop programmes that will improve children's progress and interaction.
  9. To link programmes of study with national recognised vocational qualifications.
  10. To work with the young people in a caring and nurturing manner developing relationships based on trust, confidence and understanding.
  11. To assist in sustaining peer relationships within the home as well as promoting aspects of a young person's individual programme through growing personal resilience and empathy.
  12. To plan with, join in with and encourage all young people in educational, recreational, occupational and social activities.
  13. To work as "part of a team" and provide support and encouragement for colleagues as well as the young people and help build a strong child-focused team.
  14. To work from your own initiative, in line with all: risk assessments, care plans and emotional and behavioural plans to progress the therapeutic goals of a child.
  15. To help young people to develop their independent Living/Life Skills.
  16. To prepare, implement and review programmes designed to aid a child's development and personalise their care plans.
  17. To induct newly admitted young people, making them feel welcome and validated as important members of their new home.
  18. To help plan and prepare young people when moving on from the home, for their future including balancing risk with opportunity.

All Applicants Must Have
  1. Have an understanding of the issues that face young people in care
  2. Hold Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
  3. Excellent communication and listening skills
  4. Be willing to learn
  5. Be able to work well as part of a small team
  6. Be willing to undertake a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position. Your DBS check shall be paid for by ourselves
  7. Experience with Emotional Behavioural Disorder, Social/Residential Work or Youth Work would be advantageous.
  8. Have a full, clean UK driving licence and be able to cover at other Residential Homes as and when needed.

  1. A sleep-in allowance of £62.64 per night- potential extra earning of up to £3257.28
  2. Shift Rotation: 2 days on, 2 days off, with staggered start times ranging from 8am, 12noon or 2pm (i.e. 8am-10pm, 12pm-10pm or 2pm-10pm).6 weeks annual leave entitlement.
