Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic physiotherapist to join the newly-formed Respiratory Outpatients Physiotherapy service at NUH as a Band 7 team leader.

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 or current Band 7 physiotherapist with a broad respiratory clinical skill set and a passion for service development and improvement. You will have strong leadership and management skills, with excellent teamwork and communication skills. Proven skills in quality improvement will be an advantage.

You will treat patients with bronchiectasis and dysfunctional breathing disorders in the outpatient setting. Our ambition is to extend the service to other chronic respiratory illnesses in the future. You will work alongside an experienced Highly Specialist COPD physiotherapist to co-lead innovative, person-centred service development.

We are keen to support your progression in advanced clinical practice skills, such as lung function testing and nebulised therapy dose assessments, aligned with your career goals.

You will contribute to the wider inpatient respiratory physiotherapy team and its out-of-hours service. Opportunities for development include regular training, peer/line management supervision, and support from B7 respiratory physiotherapists across medical and surgical specialties.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for full details. Core responsibilities include:

  1. Managing the day-to-day operations of the Respiratory outpatient physiotherapy service.
  2. Managing a clinical caseload of highly complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
  3. Ensuring evidence-based practice, service development, and education underpin service delivery.
  4. Providing a supportive learning environment for team members, including annual appraisals and health and wellbeing management.
  5. Contributing to education and training of students, preceptees, and support workers, including training for weekend and respiratory rosters.
  6. Participating in the weekend respiratory service at NUH, City Hospital, covering Respiratory Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, and Critical Care.
  7. Supporting service development through leadership and quality improvement work in collaboration with Respiratory Medicine consultants and the physiotherapy outpatient team.
  8. Leading by example, embodying NUH’s values and behaviours.

NUH is a major employer with over 19,000 staff, playing a key role in research, education, and innovation. We value diversity and welcome new ideas to develop our team and deliver world-class healthcare. We offer extensive personal development opportunities to turn your job into a fulfilling career.

Physiotherapy and OT services are part of the Therapies, Outpatients, and Phlebotomy Directorate within Specialist Clinical Services. Our diverse team of over 800 HCPC-registered AHPs and support staff is committed to high-quality care. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who identify as Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, to enhance our representation.
