Team Leader - Business growth - Ref: EE09826

Grade: G11; £53,051 - £56,293

Help shape the future of business support and economic growth in Walsall

We are looking for a motivated individual to take on an exciting role managing and developing our highly successful Business Growth team.

As a Team Leader, you will be joining our team at a critically important time and have substantial scope to innovate and shape our service, working closely with the Head of Investment & Development and West Midlands Growth Company to ensure effective delivery of Local Enterprise Support and maximise the positive impact of the West Midlands Economic Delivery Vehicle in Walsall.

We adopted our Business Growth Strategy earlier this year, which sets out three priority areas:

1. Investor engagement: ensuring our sites and businesses are effectively promoted to potential investors and that support is in place to help potential investors realise their plans.

2. Business engagement: ensuring Walsall businesses can easily access and understand the support available to them and that more intensive support is targeted to maximise impact.

3. Business growth support: to ensure Walsall businesses have access to a menu of support that they can draw from to accelerate their journey to growth.

As part of the Council's Investment & Development service, Business Growth works closely with the Council's Development team, which is responsible for leading on regeneration and development projects across Walsall, and the Council's Employability & Skills team. The role is intrinsically linked to the Council's wider regeneration ambitions and sits at the heart of a place-based transformation agenda.

About the role

As Team Leader, you will lead and manage the Business Growth team, working with the Head of Investment and Development to ensure the effective delivery of the Council Plan, Economic Framework, Business Growth Strategy and West Midlands Growth Plan. This includes:

  • Leading the development of the Business Growth service including strategic account management, building relationships with the borough's strategic employers, supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, grow-on businesses, and social enterprises to start, scale, grow and remain in Walsall.
  • Leading on developing our detailed understanding of business needs, focussing on key growth sectors, and leading on advice, support and interventions which remove barriers to and help with sustaining and creating employment growth for our businesses and residents.
  • Playing a lead role and taking responsibility for the coordinated working relationship with the West Midlands Economic Development Vehicle and other partners to optimise outcomes for business and productivity growth in Walsall.
Why join Walsall?

  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Up to 29 days annual leave, rising to 34 days after five years' continuous local government service.
  • Up to 12 additional days leave through our flexible working scheme.
  • Career Average Pension Scheme.
  • A strong commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and work-life balance.
