Job summary

Walsall Council is seeking a Team Leader to drive the Business Growth service within the Investment & Development function, working with the Head of Investment & Development and West Midlands Growth Company to promote investor engagement and deliver growth for Walsall.

You will lead on understanding business needs across key growth sectors, provide targeted support to entrepreneurs, SMEs, and social enterprises, and ensure delivery of a menu of growth interventions that sustain and create

• Coordinate with partners such as the West Midlands Economic Development Vehicle to optimise outcomes for business productivity.

Job description

As a Team Leader, you will be joining our team at a critically important time and have substantial scope to innovate and shape our service, working closely with the Head of Investment & Development and West Midlands Growth Company to ensure effective delivery of Local Enterprise Support and maximise the positive impact of the West Midlands Economic Delivery Vehicle in Walsall. We adopted our Business Growth Strategy earlier this year, which sets out three priority areas: 1. Investor engagement: ensuring our sites and businesses are effectively promoted to potential investors and that support is in place to help potential investors realise their plans. 2. Business engagement: ensuring Walsall businesses can easily access and understand the support available to them and that more intensive support is targeted to maximise impact. 3. Business growth support: to ensure Walsall businesses have access to a menu of support that they can draw from to accelerate their journey to growth. As part of the Council's Investment & Development service, Business Growth works closely with the Council's Development team, which is responsible for leading on regeneration and development projects across Walsall, and the Council's Employability & Skills team. The role is intrinsically linked to the Council's wider regeneration ambitions and sits at the heart of a place-based transformation agenda.

• Leading the development of the Business Growth service including strategic account management, building relationships with the borough's strategic employers, supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, grow-on businesses, and social enterprises to start, scale, grow and remain in Walsall.
• Leading on developing our detailed understanding of business needs, focussing on key growth sectors, and leading on advice, support and interventions which remove barriers to and help with sustaining and creating employment growth for our businesses and residents.
• Playing a lead role and taking responsibility for the coordinated working relationship with the West Midlands Economic Development Vehicle and other partners to optimise outcomes for business and productivity growth in Walsall.

  We are looking for a motivated individual to take on an exciting role managing and developing our highly successful Business Growth team., This post is covered by the Government's Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
