Job description

The Creative Industries School at Kingston College includes a range of general and specialist courses from level 1 to level 4 covering Art and Design, Media, Music and Performing Arts. Whilst the vast majority of students are on full-time 16-19 Study Programmes, the School also offers Access Diplomas and Higher Education courses and has more recently expanded into part-time Adult Education courses and is looking to further its offer to the local community by making specialist resources available for hire.

As our Team Leader – Art & Design, you will join the School’s Management Group (SMG) and will be responsible for curriculum standards and outcomes for a number of programmes, assuming responsibility for the organisation and co-ordination of delivery teams. Contributing directly to developing and meeting the School’s Quality Self-assessment and Improvement plans, you will ensure targets for recruitment, retention, achievement, success, progression and student satisfaction are achieved or exceeded.

We are looking for someone who holds a degree, or higher, in a relevant art & design specialism and/or equivalent professional qualification, holds a teaching qualification (or willing to work towards) and has excellent current teaching skills in art & design. Recognised as a good/outstanding teacher, you will have a strong commitment to equality and diversity, safeguarding, personalised learning and the provision of educational excellence. With experience of effectively leading/managing curriculum programmes and of managing, supporting and developing staff, you will have current knowledge of impending curriculum changes and the implications for teaching and learning strategies.

You will have a thorough understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes and how these can be used to enhance the student experience with a strong vision for the continuing improvement and development of the curriculum area. With experience of successfully monitoring and supporting ‘at-risk’ learners to achieve or exceed their potential, you will be receptive to new ideas and initiatives with a creative approach to problem solving.

Closing date for the return of completed applications is 28th April 2025.

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 37 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.

As part of our due diligence checks on prospective employees, successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, an online search and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

As outlined in the Public Sector Equality Duty of the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

The South Thames Colleges Group is made up of Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College and South Thames College, which merged on 1 August 2017. South Thames Colleges Group is one of London’s largest providers of post-16 education and training and is an ongoing and significant contributor to its local communities. We aim to put students’ success at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for hard-working and collaborative people who can join our team and help challenge our students to achieve and progress.
