Job summary

The University of Manchester is seeking a Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Assistant within the School of Natural Sciences to support course unit setup, registrations, and curriculum-related enquiries. You will contribute to quality-assurance and continuous improvement while keeping students at the centre of everything we do.

  • Respond to curriculum-related enquiries via the School hub and escalate when needed.
  • Provide general administrative support including meetings, minute-taking, record-keeping, and cross-team collaboration.

Job description

Start your career in higher-education administration as a Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Assistant with the School of Natural Sciences. You will be responsible for:
  • Support course unit set-up and maintenance in University systems and online learning environments, ensuring accurate course unit records, information, and data across key platforms and databases.
  • Assist with course unit selection and student registrations, helping students make informed choices and ensuring processes run smoothly, accurately, and to agreed deadlines.
  • Contribute to quality-assurance processes and specialist activities such as accreditation or Online and Blended Learning support, working with colleagues and academic stakeholders.
  • Respond to curriculum-related enquiries via the School hub, signposting and escalating where appropriate to keep students' experience front and centre.
  • Provide general administrative support including meeting arrangements, paperwork, minute-taking, correspondence, record-keeping, continuous improvement activity, and collaboration across cross-University teams.

You will join our Curriculum and Programmes team, part of a flexible, cross-functional network that places students at the centre of everything we do. Working with Student and Academic Services, Assessment and Progression, Information, Advice and Guidance, and Student Support and Welfare, you will help deliver seamless, high-quality support for teaching and learning.

Essential Criteria:
  • Experience of administrative processes, with strong attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving approach.
  • Clear, friendly written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people and maintain confidentiality.
  • A customer-focused mindset, with responsiveness to student and staff needs and a commitment to excellent service.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment and meet deadlines.
  • Digital literacy with standard IT packages, confidence working with data, and a flexible, supportive approach to team working.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Breadth and variety: hands‑on experience across the academic cycle, from course setup to registration, selection, and ongoing curriculum support.
  • Skills for HE success: build data, systems, and service skills that are highly transferable across university professional services.
