Job summary

Arden College is seeking a flexible Teaching Assistant to join our Education team in Southport. You will support pupils with their work, assist with behaviour management, and help create a positive, inclusive learning environment.

The role requires resilience, strong communication, and a caring, attentive approach. Experience in education is preferred, and a Level 2 qualification is helpful but not mandatory.

  • Ideal experience in education settings or similar roles.
  • Level 2 qualification desired though not mandatory.
  • It is important to demonstrate reliability, patience and adaptability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher with pupil work and activities.
  • Support pupil behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment.

Job description

Arden College is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our Education team now! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all areas The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting the young people with their work and supporting with pupil behaviour while establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have previous experience supporting in an education setting and have a Level 2 qualification, however this is not a requirement. Candidates should have the following qualities and characteristics:

  • Resilience - We support some of the most vulnerable young in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged.
  • Communication - Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
  • Organisation - Strong organisational skills are important to support the class teacher and young people with educational activities
  • Caring - Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.
  • Attentive - No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.

Arden College is situated on 2 sites in Southport, a vibrant and cultured town on the west coast of Lancashire. The college makes the most of its position and much of the extended college curriculum is located within the community and vocational settings within the region. Arden is a specialist college for students aged 16-25 with autism, complex learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
