Job Description:

We are seeking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to work with pupils in our school who have special educational needs.

The successful candidate will work with a strong team and gain regular CPD and lots of opportunities.

The start date is negotiable but will be no later than September 1st 2025. Please read the job specification for more information.

We will be flexible for the right candidate and will offer 30-37 hours per week, depending on circumstances and preference.

JOB OVERVIEW

At Wantage Primary Academy, we are looking for two passionate teaching assistants who would like to join our team. We can offer you supportive staff and well-behaved, hard working pupils.

Wantage Primary Academy opened in September 2020 with just a few small classes and, by September 2025, we have grown to over 320 pupils in a Nursery class, 2 Reception classes, 2 Year 1 classes, 2 Year 2 classes, 2 Year 3 classes, a Year 4 class, a Year 5 class and a Year 6 class. We will eventually grow to a full, 2-form entry primary school. This is a golden opportunity to be part of outstanding provision within a growing team.

Main role:

  • The teaching assistant will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, under the leadership and supervision of the principal.
  • They will work with individuals/groups to support the delivery of quality learning and teaching and will help raise standards of achievement for all pupils.
  • Work with the class teachers to deliver purposeful learning opportunities.
  • They will also supervise children at playtime.
  • Work may be carried out in classrooms, intervention/breakout spaces, outdoors or outside the main teaching area.
  • To implement agreed work programmes with individual pupils and groups where appropriate and support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils.
  • To supervise and support specific pupils in lesson time and during transition periods, when required.
  • With the class teacher, support excellent progress for specific children across all areas of development through effective participation in observation, assessment, and planning.
