Job summary

Priory School in Greater London is seeking a Level 4 HLTA to lead classroom support, guide Teaching Assistants, and oversee key learning spaces across the school. The role combines teaching, team management, and practical coordination to promote independence and achievement for students with additional needs.

You will work with students across pathways, coordinating support staff and ensuring high-quality interventions for Severe Learning Difficulties and complex SEND profiles.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan, teach and assess learning across the timetable, covering PPA and absence.
  • Oversee Teaching Assistants during classes and activities.
  • Deliver targeted learning activities for SLD and complex needs.
  • Assist in running vocational and life-skills spaces (e.g., Woodlands Cafe).
  • Coordinate off-site community access, swimming, and riding sessions.
  • Lead lunchtime routines, clubs, and dining hall setups.
  • Collaborate with Speech & Language Therapists and other MDT members.

Priory Schoolis looking for a Level 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to leadclassroom support, guide Teaching Assistants, and oversee key non-classroomlearning spaces across the school.

This is anexciting opportunity for someone who wants to combine classroom practice, teammanagement, and practical coordination. You will work directly with studentsacross pathways and help us maintain an environment where independence andindividual achievements are celebrated.

The role willinclude:

  • Planning, teaching and assessinglearning following an agreed timetable across the school, covering the teachers PPA and absence asrequired.
  • Overseeing and deploying TeachingAssistants during taught classes and wider school activities.
  • Supporting teachers by deliveringlearning activities and targeted interventions tailored to Severe LearningDifficulties (SLD) and complex needs.
  • Assisting in the daily running ofvocational and life-skills environments, including the Woodlands Cafe and lifeskills flat.
  • Coordinating and supportingoff-site community access, swimming routines, and horse- riding sessions.
  • Overseeing lunchtime routines anddining hall setups.
  • Leading lunchtime clubs,whole-school snack distribution, and supporting cultural/seasonal events.
  • Collaborating with Speech &Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • We are looking for someone who is:
  • Experienced in working with youngpeople with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), autism, or complex SENDprofiles.
  • Physically and emotionallyresilient to work across the whole school, including all key stages andpathways, including those with physically challenging behaviour.
  • Demonstrating high standards ofliteracy and numeracy, with the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, andprofessionally across written and verbal communications.
  • Passionate about working withyoung people.
  • Well organised and able to managetheir own workload.
  • Confident in directing anddeploying support staff in classroom and non-classroom environments.
  • Well-organised, resilient, andskilled at managing logistics, stock, and practical arrangements.
  • Collaborative, warm, and able tobuild strong relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Committed to promotingindependence, dignity, and readiness for adulthood.

HLTA statusor equivalent Level 4 qualification, OR relevant specialist experience.
