Job summary

North Tyneside Council is recruiting a Level 3 Teaching Assistant to work 37 hours per week, term-time only. The post carries a Grade 5 salary of £27,274–£28,153 pro rata.

The role supports 16-24 year olds with Education & Health Care (EHC) plans, working with tutors to deliver personalised support under the direction of our HLTA and teaching team. You will assist with planning cycles, resource management, and may supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absences.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications.
  • Experience with young people with additional needs and/or EHC plans is preferred.
  • Ability to work with learners and tutors, and to act on own initiative within supervision.

Responsibilities

In June 2023, North Tyneside Adult Learning Service were officially recognised by Ofsted as offering outstanding provision for High Needs, in our Ignite Your Potential programme, with outstanding development of learner behaviours and attitudes. Following the promotion of a team member, we have an exciting opportunity available for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant. We are looking to appoint a Teachign Asssitant to work 37 hours per week over 38-weeks on a term-time only basis. Part-time/ job-share applications will be considered where appropriate and applicable.

The post holder will play an integral part in contributing to high quality outcomes and positive progression for 40 young people aged 16-24 years with Education & Health Care (EHC) plans. As part of our skilled and experienced team, you will work in various classes under the direction of our HLTA and teaching team to provide personalised support and assistance for students in line with their EHC plans. This could include support for individuals requiring detailed understanding and/or specialist knowledge of needs and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Where necessary specialist training is provided to support with tshi process.

You will assist tutors in the management of students both within the classroom and beyond including during breaks, lunchtimes, enrichment and community participation activities. On occasion the role may also involve supervision of whole classes during the short-term teacher absence.

Our ideal candidate will hold supporting teaching and learning qualifications at a minimum of L3 alongside experience of work with young people with additional needs and/or EHC plans preferably in a post-16 environment. You must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with learners, tutors, carers, colleagues and other professionals, demonstrating solution-focussed approaches and be able work on your own initiative within agreed systems of supervision.

DBS Statement

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and an Enhanced DBS disclosure, including Barred List Check, will be required.
