Job summary

KHSS in Birmingham is seeking a proactive Teaching Assistant to support young people with special educational needs, including physical disabilities and medical needs. You will work closely with families, therapists and teaching staff to deliver person-centred care and promote independence.

Applicants should have GCSEs in English and Maths at C/4 or above and a Level 3 NVQ for Teaching Assistants. Training in moving and handling and assistive technology will be provided.

Qualifications

• GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
• Level 3 NVQ for Teaching Assistants or equivalent.
• Experience supporting young people with SEND incl. disabilities/medical needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to undertake specialist training (moving and handling, hoisting, assistive tech).

Responsibilities

• Support children/young people with complex needs in daily activities.
• Assist with communication, personal care and medical needs as required.
• Work within a multidisciplinary team alongside families and professionals.
• Use specialist equipment and assistive technology to promote independence.

Job description

You will:

• Hold GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
• Have a Level 3 NVQ for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
• Have experience of supporting young people with special educational needs, particularly physical disabilities, medical needs, communication needs and/or personal care requirements.
• Have experience of using good communication and interpersonal skills
• Have experience of undertaking a range of administrative tasks Be a self-motivated and enthusiastic worker
• Have experience of supporting children or young people with complex physical disabilities and/or medical needs.
• Be able to support the use of specialist equipment and assistive technology. Have experience of promoting independence, dignity and self-advocacy in young people with additional needs.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside families, therapists, medical professionals and teaching staff.
• Demonstrate patience, emotional resilience and a commitment to person-centred support. Be willing to undertake specialist training including moving and handling, hoisting, personal care, assistive technology and medical needs training.
