Job summary

St Catherines Catholic Primary School in Lowton is seeking two Level 2 full-time SEND Teaching Assistants from September 2026. We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated staff to join a friendly and welcoming school community.

You will supervise and support pupils, assist with Individual Education Plans, and promote inclusion and positive behaviour under the guidance of the SENCO and teaching staff. Salary: Grade 3, £17,344 per annum (30 hours per week, term time).

Qualifications

Supports pupils with learning difficulties and behavioural/social/physical needs.
Works under the guidance of teachers and SENCO to enable access to learning.

Responsibilities

Supervise and provide support for pupils to ensure safety and access to learning activities.
Assist with developing and implementing individual education/behaviour plans.
Establish positive relationships and interact according to individual needs.
Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with barriers to learning.
Promote inclusion and encourage pupil interaction.
Assist with planning and monitoring of learning activities.
Record progress and provide feedback to teachers.

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the teaching staff and SENCO to undertake work and support to enable access for learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and classroom. To give support for SEND pupil/s providing particular help for those students with learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social or physical disabilities.

Reporting to: Teachers/ SENCO

Liaising with: pupils, teachers, senior staff

Job Description:

To supervise and provide particular support for pupils, ensuing their safety and access to learning activities.
To assist with the development and implementation of Individual education/behaviour plans and personal care programmes.
To establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
To provide specialist support to pupils with barriers to learning on a one to one basis, in small group in or out of the classroom
To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
To encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work
To assist with the planning of learning activities
To monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
To provide regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress and problems
To promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
To assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times
To accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher as may be reasonably directed
