Job summary

Springwood Heath Primary School in Liverpool is offering a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. The role supports the class teacher and other staff to create an inclusive learning environment for pupils, including those with SEND.

  • Enhanced DBS check required due to working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and evaluation while supporting teaching programmes.
  • Assist in lessons and interact with teachers and pupils.
  • Adapt learning activities according to pupil needs and progress.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning and help pupils grow in confidence with technology.
  • Provide individual and group support, explain tasks, and sustain engagement.
  • Deliver short whole-class sessions such as reading activities.
  • Encourage communication and participation through role play and interactive tasks.
  • Promote inclusion, teamwork, and positive relationships among pupils.
  • Foster independence, confidence and self-esteem in pupils.
  • Assist staff with planning, delivering and evaluating lessons.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to the teacher.
  • Contribute to assessment through observation, reporting and record keeping.
  • Prepare and organise resources and materials.

Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship- Springwood Heath Primary School
About the Role

The learner will be working toward the role of Additional Needs Support Assistant. This position involves supporting the class teacher, the Headteacher and the Governing Body in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism. The role includes providing tailored support to help pupils overcome barriers linked to sensory, behavioural, communication, medical or physical needs. The learner will also assist other staff under the direction of the class teacher or learning support officer. A key part of the role is contributing to the safeguarding, wellbeing and personal care of children and young people across the school.

Apprenticeship Details
  • Hours: Monday to Friday 8.45am - 3.30pm 30 mins unpaid lunch break 32 hours per week
  • Hourly Wage: £8 per hour (first 12 months), then National Minimum Wage

  • Support classroom management by preparing and organising resources, equipment, and materials
  • Complete administrative tasks including producing learning materials and managing coursework
  • Liaise with parents, carers, specialist teachers, and external professionals to support pupil development
  • Ensure pupil safety, welfare, and inclusion while providing personal and hygiene support when needed
