Job summary

Springwood Heath Primary School, Liverpool, is offering an Apprenticeship for an Additional Needs Support Assistant to work with pupils with SEND, including severe learning difficulties and autism. You will support the class teacher and staff to provide an inclusive learning environment and tailored pupil support.

The 16-month apprenticeship runs Monday to Friday, 32 hours per week, with £8 per hour in the first 12 months and then National Minimum Wage.

Qualifications

• Five GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
• Desirable but not essential: experience working with children.
• Commitment to flexible, learner-centred support.
• Enhanced DBS check may be required due to working with children.

About the Role

The learner will be working toward the role of Additional Needs Support Assistant. This position involves supporting the class teacher, the Headteacher and the Governing Body in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism. The role includes providing tailored support to help pupils overcome barriers linked to sensory, behavioural, communication, medical or physical needs. The learner will also assist other staff under the direction of the class teacher or learning support officer. A key part of the role is contributing to the safeguarding, wellbeing and personal care of children and young people across the school.

Apprenticeship Details

• Hours: Monday to Friday 8.45am - 3.30pm 30 mins unpaid lunch break32 hours per week
• Hourly Wage: £8 per hour (first 12 months), then National Minimum Wage
• Apprenticeship Level: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

Key Responsibilities

• Complete administrative tasks including producing learning materials and managing coursework
• Liaise with parents, carers, specialist teachers, and external professionals to support pupil development
• Ensure pupil safety, welfare, and inclusion while providing personal and hygiene support when needed
