Our Lady and St Swithin’s Catholic Primary School in Liverpool is seeking a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to support pupils, including those with special educational needs, under teacher guidance. The role includes personal care support, classroom assistance, and administrative tasks.

You will work with a dedicated team, participate in planned programmes, and complete the Business Administrator Level 3 apprenticeship with Realise as the training provider.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise pupils and support learning activities, including SEND pupils.
  • Assist with personal care, welfare, health, hygiene and mobility needs.
  • Model positive behavior and encourage pupil interaction.
  • Support development and implementation of IEP/Behaviour Plans.
  • Provide feedback on progress under teacher direction.
  • Assist with equipment and moving and handling as needed.
  • Maintain orderly, supportive classroom environment per lesson plans.
  • Assist with displaying pupil work and promoting positive conduct.
  • Provide clerical support as required and help with marking.
  • Liaise with parents/carers and participate in planning for SEN support.

Vacancy Detail

Our Lady and St Swithin’s Catholic Primary School are a thriving, busy and welcoming primary school and work closely with our parish. Our Lady Queen of Martyr’s. When required you will take part in the planning, development and implementation of programmes of support for pupils with special educational needs.

Duties will include:

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Deal with the personal care and comfort of pupils as required in relation to welfare, health, hygiene, toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility and administering of medicines.
  • Establish good working relationships with pupils acting as a role model.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance and direction of the teacher.
  • Support the use of specialist equipment and procedures including, moving and handling to meet a child’s individual needs.
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment in accordance with lesson plans.
  • Assist with the display of children’s work.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour in line with established school policy.
  • Provide clerical/administrative support (e.g. photocopying, word processing, filing, collecting money etc.)
  • Undertake routine tests and invigilate exams and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Be involved in the planning, development and implementation of programmes of support for pupils with special educational needs.
  • To escort pupils as necessary and assist in movement around the school.
Qualifications required
  • Achieved or working towards a Level 1 qualification in Maths/numeracy and English/literacy.
  • Requirement to complete DfES Teacher Assistant Induction Programme.
  • NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Training in relevant learning strategies e.g. literacy / numeracy.
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate first aid training.

  • Ability to build and maintain successful relationships with pupils, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration and demonstrate concern for them development as learners.

  • Ability to improve your own practice through observations, evaluation and discussion with colleagues.
Skills required
  • General understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic learning programmes/techniques.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • General awareness of inclusion, especially within a school setting.

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

You will be working towards the Business Administrator Level 3 apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Business Administrator L3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional skills in Maths and English if required
