Job summary

Norton College, Worcester, is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You will work alongside teachers and a multidisciplinary team to provide personalised, autism-informed support and help learners access their learning in a structured, nurturing environment.

You'll be involved in 1:1, small-group and classroom support, contribute to individual support plans, and maintain accurate records while upholding safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (essential).
  • Experience supporting young people with autism or additional needs.
  • Able to work 1:1, in groups, and in classroom settings.
  • Calm, patient, resilient with good safeguarding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to access learning.
  • Support teachers to deliver autism-informed learning.
  • Maintain accurate records and safeguarding standards.
  • Assist with personal care when required.

Job description

At Norton College, we're looking for an experienced and resilient Teaching Assistant to help our students build confidence, independence and achieve meaningful progress. Working alongside teachers and our multidisciplinary team, you'll provide personalised support to young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping create a structured, nurturing environment where they feel safe, understood and ready to learn. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your existing Teaching Assistant experience within specialist education and make a visible difference every day.

  • Provide 1:1, small-group and classroom support, helping students access learning and work towards individual goals.
  • Support teachers and tutors to deliver engaging, structured and autism-informed learning.
  • Help students develop greater confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
  • Provide calm and consistent support around behaviour and emotional regulation, encouraging greater self-management.
  • Contribute to individual support plans, including IEPs, BSPs, risk assessments and communication profiles.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching, care and multidisciplinary colleagues to provide consistent, joined-up support.
  • Support students with daily routines and personal care where required, always promoting dignity and independence.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold high standards of safeguarding, Health & Safety and pupil wellbeing. Has previous Teaching Assistant experience - essential.
  • Holds GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent - essential.
  • Has experience or a strong interest in supporting young people with autism and additional needs.
  • Is confident supporting pupils who may display behaviours that challenge.
  • Is patient, calm and resilient, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
  • Has experience working collaboratively with teachers and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Is adaptable and able to tailor their approach to individual student needs.
  • Is comfortable providing personal care where required.
  • Is committed to safeguarding, inclusive practice and achieving the best possible outcomes for every student.
  • Is enthusiastic about continuing to learn and develop within specialist education. Norton College is an Independent specialist school for secondary students aged 11-19 based in Worcester.
