Job summary

Wellesbourne CE Primary & Nursery School is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils to reach their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive environment. You will work with teachers to provide educational, pastoral and practical support inside and outside the classroom.

You will assist with learning activities, monitor progress, promote positive behaviour and safeguarding. You’ll also help with lunchtime supervision and classroom organisation as part of a collaborative team

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Job description

Teaching Assistant

The Teaching Assistant plays a key role in supporting pupils to achieve their full potential, helping to create a nurturing, engaging and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will provide educational, pastoral and practical support both inside and outside the classroom, enabling pupils to become confident, successful and independent learners.

Key Responsibilities
Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Work alongside teachers to support the delivery of high-quality learning experiences.
  • Provide targeted support to individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning and help them make progress.
  • Adapt support and resources to meet the varying needs of pupils, including those with additional learning needs.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Support the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and learning activities.
  • Assist in the assessment and monitoring of pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Promote high expectations of behaviour, achievement and participation.
Pupil Wellbeing and Pastoral Support
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, helping them to feel safe, valued and included.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional and personal development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and model the school's values and expectations.
  • Respond appropriately to pupils' welfare needs and contribute to safeguarding procedures.
  • Support pupils during transitions, educational visits and enrichment activities.
Classroom Organisation
  • Help maintain a stimulating, welcoming and well‑organised learning environment.
  • Prepare, organise and maintain classroom resources and displays.
  • Support teachers with administrative tasks that contribute to effective classroom operation.
  • Assist with supervision during lessons and learning activities.
Lunchtime Support
  • Supervise pupils during lunchtime, promoting positive behaviour, safety and wellbeing.
  • Support pupils in the dining hall and playground, helping to create a calm, enjoyable and inclusive environment.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, cooperation and good manners.
  • Facilitate playground games and activities where appropriate.
  • Respond to minor incidents and ensure pupils' welfare needs are met.
  • Communicate any concerns regarding behaviour, wellbeing or safeguarding promptly to appropriate staff.
Wider School Contribution
  • Participate in school events, trips and activities as required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals.
  • Support the school's commitment to equality, inclusion and high achievement for all pupils.
  • Undertake training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the role as required by the school.
