Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Primary Teaching Assistant in Watford to support classroom learning and targeted interventions. This role is full-time, long-term temporary, Monday to Friday during term time.

You will work with the class teacher to help pupils understand tasks, practise key skills and participate confidently in school life, with opportunities to work with individuals and small groups across the primary curriculum.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting learning in a UK primary school.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills with clear spoken communication.
• Ability to follow teacher planning and build relationships with pupils.
• Level 2 or Level 3 teaching assistant qualification; experience with a structured phonics programme desirable.
• Please include the year groups you have supported.

Responsibilities

• Support English and maths activities, checking understanding and encouraging independence.
• Lead teacher-planned reading, phonics or number practise with small groups.
• Prepare classroom resources and maintain an organised learning environment.
• Reinforce classroom expectations and support positive social interactions.
• Feed back to the teacher on progress and pupils needing extra support.

Working with the class teacher, you will help pupils understand tasks, practise key skills and participate confidently in school life. This is a general classroom support role, with opportunities to work with individuals and small groups across the primary curriculum.

Your responsibilities

• Support English and maths activities, checking understanding and encouraging independence.
• Lead teacher-planned reading, phonics or number practice with small groups.
• Prepare classroom resources and help maintain an organised learning environment.
• Reinforce classroom expectations and support positive social interactions.
• Feed back to the teacher on progress, misconceptions and pupils who need extra support.

What you will need

• Previous experience supporting learning in a UK primary school.
• Secure literacy and numeracy skills and clear spoken communication.
• Ability to follow teacher planning and build constructive relationships with pupils.
• A Level 2 or Level 3 teaching assistant qualification and experience of a structured phonics programme are desirable.
