Job summary

TipTopJob is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils across EYFS to KS2 in Thetford and surrounding Breckland/South Norfolk. You will join a network of primary schools providing day-to-day cover or long-term placements with flexible scheduling to fit your life.

Ideal candidates bring experience with children, strong literacy/numeracy support, and a patient, adaptable approach. DBS checks and safeguarding are required, with weekly pay and local consultancy support.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Provide support to class teachers in preparing resources, managing classroom activities, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Work 1:1 or with small groups of pupils to reinforce literacy, numeracy, and core curriculum tasks.
• Help children build confidence, focus, and social skills, offering gentle guidance and encouragement.
• Assist pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by tailoring learning activities to suit their individual learning styles.
• Support classroom management and encourage positive behaviour in line with school policies.
• Assist with supervision during break times, lunchtimes, and school trips as needed.

What We Look For

• Previous experience supporting children in an educational, childcare, nursery, or community setting.
• A warm, patient, and encouraging approach with strong communication skills.
• Good standards of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths preferred).
• An adaptable, proactive attitude with the ability to step into different primary classrooms with confidence.
• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
