We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed professional to join us as a Teaching Assistant in a Specialist SEND School in Pontefract. The school's education programme is designed to provide pupils with the specialised support they need, going beyond what mainstream schools can offer.

The school caters to children aged 9 - 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and challenging behaviours. The staff work together to provide positive experiences and accessible education for each student, emphasizing care and consideration. They collaborate with parents to ensure each child's potential is fulfilled through encouragement, diverse learning opportunities, and enthusiastic staff.

Your role will involve working with children across the school to cover various classes on a 1:1 and whole-class basis. This position is suitable for individuals with experience in care, mainstream, or SEND settings seeking flexibility.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the Class Teacher in delivering a range of subjects and support students' progression
  • Assist in delivering lessons, managing positive behaviour, and creating a safe learning environment
  • Follow whole school systems for teaching and learning with full support and induction from the school
  • Provide personal care to students when needed
  • Support children both indoors and outdoors in various settings

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A passionate commitment to supporting students with SEND
  • Experience working in a SEND environment or similar provision
  • A relevant care qualification or CACHE qualification
