Job summary

Liskeard Hillfort Primary School, in partnership with Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, seeks a dynamic Year 1 Teaching Assistant to support early reading and numeracy. You will work with the class teacher to deliver small-group phonics sessions (Read Write Inc) and help with the transition from Early Years into Key Stage 1.

The role requires a Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification and a proven ability to support diverse learners, including those with SEND.

Qualifications

  • Requires Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience delivering targeted early reading support (Read Write Inc).
  • Strong behaviour management and ability to adapt activities for SEND learners.

Responsibilities

Job description

Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, together with Hillfort Primary School are seeking to appoint a dynamic, caring, and committed Year 1 Teaching Assistant. Situated in Liskeard, a vibrant community setting, our school prides itself on providing a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where our youngest learners can thrive.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Teaching Assistant to join our Year 1 team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting our children through the crucial transition from Early Years into Key Stage 1, working closely with the class teacher to deliver small-group phonics, early literacy, and numeracy interventions.

Candidates should hold a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) and demonstrate proven experience in delivering targeted early reading support (Read Write Inc). A strong commitment to positive behaviour management, a confident understanding of continuous provision, and the ability to adapt activities flexibly to meet diverse learning needs—including children with SEND - are essential to ensuring every child thrives.

  • Has good knowledge of early literacy/systematic synthetic phonics (e.g., Read Write Inc) and early mathematics.
