Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support learners with complex medical needs in a Leeds SEND environment. The role involves administering daily medical interventions, implementing health-related programmes, and working flexibly across sites as needed.

Training will be provided for medical tasks and you will liaise with NHS nursing teams and parents. The role requires maintaining care plans and logs, ensuring safe medication handling and contributing to safeguarding and student

  • Support learners with complex medical needs by managing and administering daily medical interventions.
  • Support learners with personal medical needs to implement health-related programmes, including first aid.
  • Undertake regular training specific to medical tasks.
  • Collaborate with NHS nursing staff to identify and monitor medical needs of pupils.
  • Maintain and review individual care plans in liaison with NHS staff and report any discrepancies.
  • Keep logs for medication storage, expiry dates and administration.

Teaching Assistant

I am working with a generic SEND school in Leeds. I have full time positions available for September.

The successful candidates for these roles will be supporting learners who may have complex medical needs by managing and administering daily medical interventions. You must be flexible as you may have to work in other sites.

Responsibilities
  • To Support learners who may have complex medical needs by managing and administering daily medical interventions.
  • To support learners with personal medical needs to implement related personal programmes, including health, physical, hygiene and first aid.
  • To undertake regular training, specific to the medical tasks being undertaken.
  • To support the NHS nursing team to identify and monitor the medical needs of pupils.
  • To implement detailed individual care plans and interventions, in liaison with nursing support.
  • To maintain and regularly review individual care plans in liaison with NHS nursing support and report any anomalies between the medication provided and the care plans received from the NHS nursing support to the Inclusion Manager/ SLT.
  • Monitor learner responses to treatments and call specialist support if necessary.
  • To manage medications, ensuring safe storage, expiry dates etc. and keeping appropriate logs.
  • To maintain regular communication with parents to share information related to the learners' health, gather relevant health information
  • To establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals.
  • To keep up to date with developments in medications, treatments etc.To recognise own strengths and areas of specialist expertise and use these to lead, advise and support others.
  • To provide medical support to out of school learning activities within guidelines established by the school.
  • To establish good relationships with learners, acting as a role model, setting high expectations and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • To support learners consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
