Job description

Sedgemoor Manor School are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our Education team!

We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed people, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support learning across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting the pupils and young people with their work and supporting with pupil engagement and learning through establishing good relationships, becoming a trusted adult and implementing applicable strategies of the pupil education and health care plan.

Sedgemoor Manor School is very different to most schools, set in a calm idyllic site with several buildings for our small teaching groups (maximum 6 pupils) to engage and learn. We are almost at capacity with 100 places for pupils in year 3 through to sixth form. Pupils at Sedgemoor are autistic and are being supported in working towards overcoming various challenges. The staff, curriculum, site and experiences here enable them to thrive and achieve excellent accreditation. Many pupils go onto college and university.

Typical start and end times are as follows:

8.20am to 3.50pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

8.20 am- 3.30pm on Friday

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 7 and 19 years. Our tailored approach means we can support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a 'cycle of failure' and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a 'culture of success'. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives.

About you
  • You will be a key member of our education support team, working as part of a specialist team of Teachers and Therapists to deliver a specialist curriculum that motivates and inspires our students.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or carer would be beneficial, but as long as you have the communication skills and passion required for this role and a willingness to learn, we will give you all the training and development you need to succeed.
  • Whilst not essential, experience of supporting children with autism and complex needs would be an advantage.
  • Successful candidates, through the support of IT resources will contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the teaching and learning, social and independence activities and experiences, which enhance the learning and development of children and young people.
  • Being flexible in approach, emotionally available and resilient is an important characteristic for this role.
  • Ideally you would have experience in problem solving, have basic PC and iPad confidence, ability to communicate effectively via email and prioritise tasks.
