Job summary

Newfriars College is seeking Teaching Assistants to support learners aged 16–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You will work alongside teachers to deliver a personalised curriculum and help learners develop independence and communication skills.

The post offers 32.5 hours per week across 39 weeks per year, with a salary range of £20,866 to £22,987, and both full-time and part-time opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting learners with SEND in educational settings.
  • Ability to work closely with teachers and the support team to deliver learning programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of a personalised curriculum for learners aged 16–25 with SEND.
  • Assist with preparing learners for transitions to adulthood and developing independence skills.

Teaching Assistant Post 16 Learners with a range of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Salary £20,866 - £22,987 based on 32.5 hours per week / 39 weeks per year / hourly rate £14.13 - £15.56 (Full time equivalent salary £27,254 - £30,024) Working hours - Full-time (32.5 hours per week) and part-time opportunities available. Term Time + 1 week (39 weeks per year) ‘Together we raise aspirations and transform lives’

Newfriars College is a Specialist FE College with 200+ learners aged between 16 and 25 who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. At Newfriars, we are creating a vision that places our learners and their families at the heart of everything we do. We currently have a number of opportunities for Teaching Assistants to join our amazing team, playing a pivotal role supporting our learners across our specialist provision.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to deliver a high-quality education programme for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a personalised curriculum, helping to prepare young people for their transition into adulthood and enabling them to lead their best possible adult lives. This includes supporting engagement in learning, communication, independence skills, and meaningful daily activities. The role involves working collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals to ensure each young person receives a relevant and holistic learning experience that meets their individual needs and aspirations.
