Job summary

TeacherActive Ltd is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support students with SEMH in a London Alternative Provision setting. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, assist with differentiated lessons, and help promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

The role requires resilience, patience and a commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting SEMH pupils or similar.
• Experience managing challenging behaviour with calm de-escalation.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional boundaries.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Experience in Alternative Provision or PRU settings is a plus.

The Role

• Support pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and additional learning needs.


• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils engage with their learning.


• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.


• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.


• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.


• Promote emotional regulation, confidence, independence and positive social interactions.


• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to support individual learning and behaviour plans.


• Maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Behaviour Mentor.


• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour, ADHD, Autism or additional learning needs.


• A strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management.


• The ability to remain calm, patient and professional in challenging situations.


• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.


• A proactive, flexible and resilient approach to supporting young people.


• Experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU or SEND setting would be highly desirable.


• Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training would be advantageous.
