Job summary

St Christopher's is a large, dynamic special school for learners aged 6-19 with Autism and sensory needs. This Level 2 Teaching Assistant role supports teachers, implements tailored strategies, and helps learners engage and grow.

You will provide both one-to-one and group support, assist with personalised learning plans, and promote wellbeing in a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting students with Autism and sensory processing difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of teaching strategies for learners with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication with students, staff and parents.
  • Proactive, patient and empathetic approach to support.
  • Desirable: additional training in Autism or sensory integration.
  • Experience using communication aids or devices.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour management techniques.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • As a Level 2 Teaching Assistant at St Christopher's, you will work closely with our teachers and specialist staff to support learners with Autism and sensory processing needs. You will implement tailored strategies and approaches to help engage students in their learning, promote positive behaviours, and support their overall well-being.
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students with complex Autism, communication difficulties and sensory processing needs.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of personalised learning plans, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Support students in both academic and non-academic activities, including personal care and Hydrotherapy session, fostering independence and life skills.
  • Use positive behaviour support techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  • Help create and maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and other professionals to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Support students during sensory regulation activities., If you are an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people with Autism and sensory processing needs, we would love to hear from you.

To be successful in this role, you will be a compassionate and patient individual with a strong understanding of Autism, communication difficulties and sensory processing challenges, and the needs of children with complex learning difficulties. You will have experience working in a specialist setting, with a passion for supporting children to reach their full potential.
