Job summary

New Bridge Learning Centre is seeking a Level 1 Teaching Assistant for a part-time, permanent role in Oldham. The successful candidate will support students with complex needs in a dedicated pathway within a special needs setting, assisting the class teacher, monitoring progress, and providing feedback to stakeholders.

The role requires a nurturing approach, resilience, and willingness to work across all Pathways. Commitment to safeguarding and collaborative teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
  • Resilience to support students with complex needs and to work across Pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning within a special needs setting for a dedicated group of students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
  • Record progress and contribute to suitable interventions with teachers.
  • Model and encourage appropriate social behaviour and welfare of students.
  • Work with classroom teachers to differentiate interventions and support across the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in own professional development.

What skills and experience we're looking for
  • Previous experience of working with children or young people who may present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, preferably within an educational setting
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management
  • The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non-judgemental approach
  • The ability to support teaching and learning within a special needs setting to a dedicated group of students
  • The adaptability and resilience to work across all Pathways at the Learning Centre if required.
  • The ability to support the class teacher to monitor student progress, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
  • The ability to record student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
  • The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students.
  • The ability to work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate interventions for students in relation to the curriculum
  • The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed
  • Willingness to participate in own professional development
