Job description

Gloucestershire's Largest Comprehensive School is seeking a Teaching Assistant

With over 200 staff and approximately 1,800 students, this school is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support the Special Educational Needs (SEND) department, ensuring the effective operation of SEND provisions on a daily basis.

You will be fully integrated into subject departments, collaborating closely with subject leaders and teachers both in classrooms and during departmental meetings to help students with SEND achieve excellent progress. Your support will include 1:1 interventions, small group work, and classroom assistance.

The role involves working 30.5 hours per week over 39 weeks per year (term time plus one week).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a safe and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes, values, and behavior expected of students.
  • Implement clear rules and routines for behavior, promoting good and courteous conduct school-wide.
  • Register students attending interventions, ensuring punctuality, adherence to uniform policy, and proper equipment.
  • Develop professional relationships with colleagues, seeking advice and support as needed.
  • Support teaching and learning by adopting strategies that enhance student achievement, including those with special educational needs.
  • Encourage participation in learning and extracurricular activities to promote inclusion.
  • Assist in assessment, monitoring, recording, and reporting student progress appropriately.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills (minimum grade 5 at GCSE or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Teamwork skills and a personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for working with students and staff.
