Are you a kind-hearted individual with patience and creativity to succeed as an SEN Teaching Assistant? Working within SEN is rewarding but requires out-of-the-box thinkers who see beyond labels of disability to uncover each child's potential and love for learning.
In schools, you will work with four broad categories of need: communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, and sensory and/or physical needs. Education and training in Special Needs or Healthcare are beneficial but not essential.
The SEN Teaching Assistant will collaborate with the class teacher and therapy teams to support each child's progress towards their goals. You will gain experience with mild to severe learning difficulties, communication techniques, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, Autism, and complex medical needs.
SEN Teaching Assistants play a vital role in providing individualised support, which may involve sensory approaches, play, practical activities, or formal methods. Schools aim to prepare young people for adult life in employment, supported living, or social care.
