Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join the Sensory and Physical Team. You will provide specialist educational support to deaf children aged 0-25 across Nottingham City, working in multidisciplinary settings to promote access, achievement, inclusion and independence.

The role requires QTS and the Mandatory Qualification for Deaf Children, with options to obtain the qualification within 3 years. A DBS check is required, and hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and annual reviews where required.
• Support the effective use of hearing technology and assistive listening devices.
• Deliver training to educational practitioners and wider stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and reports in line with statutory requirements.

About the Role

Nottingham City Council is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) to join our well-established Sensory and Physical Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of deaf children and young people aged 0-25 across Nottingham City. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist educational support, advice and guidance to children, families, early years settings, schools, colleges and partner agencies.

The successful candidate will work directly with deaf children and young people to promote access, achievement, inclusion and independence. You will support educational settings to develop effective strategies and approaches that enable learners to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist assessment, teaching and intervention for deaf children and young people.
• Support children and young people across a range of educational settings.
• Advise schools, colleges and early years providers on strategies, reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice.
• Work collaboratively with families and key professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
• Contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and annual reviews where required.
• Support the effective use of hearing technology and assistive listening devices.
• Deliver training and guidance to educational practitioners and wider stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and reports in line with statutory requirements.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Hold the Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People, or is willing and able to obtain the qualification within 3 years

• Has experience of working with deaf children and young people in educational settings.
• Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal and partnership-working skills.
• Has a strong understanding of inclusive practice and SEND legislation.
• Is committed to improving outcomes for children, young people and families.
• Can work independently whilst contributing positively to a supportive team.
• Holds a full driving licence and has access to transport suitable for business use.

This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
