Northcroft School are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and imaginative Science classroom practitioner who understands that students take individual and multiple pathways in their learning and are committed to doing the best by the young people that they work with. We are seeking someone who knows or is willing to gain knowledge of the KS2 curriculum and how this supports progression to Key Stage 3, likewise for KS3 and how this supports progress into KS4 ensuring that gaps in prior learning can be closed. Northcroft School seeks teachers who when it is needed can adapt the curriculum to deliver a primary approach to Key Stage 3 learners, all of which is supported by a dedicated team and West Berkshire Local Authority.

It will be crucial to have the ability to work collaboratively with Amegreen Educations Primary School in contributing to the development of the Science curriculum, fostering critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, and create skills. Students attending Northcroft school thrive from a dedicated enrichment curriculum which will run alongside the science curriculum offering students access to firsthand experience and expose them to environments which they may not have previously been able to access.

Part of the Science teacher’s role will be to support non specialist teachers in identifying missed prior learning for some students and ensuring that a plan of how to expose students to this knowledge, while teaching an age-appropriate curriculum can skilfully be offered. For students in KS3 the national curriculum will be delivered through the Oak Academy Scheme after which they will progress onto a GCSE through the AQA scheme. For students with low level attainment standalone certifications will be offered.

Essential requirrements:

  • Good honours degree in subject and QTS
  • Able to teach KS3 and KS4 effectively in subject area, a sound knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments
  • Ability to adapt teaching for different learning needs
  • A range of strategies for creating a positive learning environment
  • Positive and engaging teaching style, able to lead, motivate, inspire and support students to achieve excellence
  • Ability to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and revision classes after school
