Job summary

St Anne’s School, part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, is seeking a compassionate class teacher to support pupils with complex needs, including SLD and Autism. This full-time, fixed-term post (maternity cover) is 32.5 hours per week, based at Hessle, with interviews Week commencing 19 October and a contract from 4 January 2027 to 23 July 2027.

You will plan, deliver and assess highly differentiated lessons in a positive, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with pupils with complex needs, including SLD.
• Ability to plan, deliver and assess differentiated lessons.
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration with staff, parents and external agencies.

Responsibilities

• Have experience and an understanding of working with pupils with complex and Severe Learning Difficulties and Autism.
• Plan, deliver and assess highly differentiated and engaging lessons which are outstanding and in line with the Teaching Standards.
• Be able to foster a positive, inclusive classroom where every pupil is valued and supported.
• Have knowledge of different curriculums.
• Be confident in leading and working collaboratively with a team of Learning Support Assistants and liaising with professionals.
• Be skilled in managing behaviour which may challenge.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills
• Be committed to working in partnership with staff, parents and carers and the local community to promote outstanding learning opportunities for all
• Have effective ICT skills
• Demonstrate experience of working in partnership with colleagues, parents, governors and multi-disciplinary agencies.
• Promote communication, emotional wellbeing and independence in every aspect of pupils’ learning.
• Embrace creative approaches to teaching and learning that celebrate achievement and inclusivity.

Our pupils have a wide range of complex needs including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Our pupils attendfrom the East Riding of Yorkshire and beyond. Alongside our day provision there is a Local Authority residential facilitywhich provides respite care for some of our pupils.

The selection process will include the requirement to prepare and teach a specific lesson to a group of pupils.

This is a fixed-term contract projected to commence on 4 th January 2027 until 23 rd July 2027. Please note, the dates could be subject to change dependant on the needs of the school. The SEN allowance will also be paid pro rata.
