Overview
To support the Head of Tax and Compliances in delivering all aspects of tax advisory and tax compliance for the firm and its partners in a timely manner.
Can be based from any of our UK offices - including Basingstoke, Cambridge, Guildford, London, Oxford, Reading.
Responsibilities
- Provide UK tax compliance services to partners; prepare personal tax returns (including amendments to estimated prior year returns, where required) for review by the Head of Tax and Compliance. Handle computation of taxes due and address personal tax-related issues and queries, including splitting liabilities, preparing banking instructions, and supporting schedules related to payments (e.g., to HMRC). Assist with liaison with former partners and third-party agents and advisers.
- Maintain the partners’ tax return database, including reconciling tax liabilities with individual returns, tracking the progress and status of tax returns, and managing information received from partners to identify additional data needed for tax return preparation.
- Assist with bi-annual tax payments to HMRC.
- Collaborate closely with the Partnership Accountant by reviewing tax reserves and contributing to partner current accounts.
- Communicate with HMRC regarding partners’ tax matters, including disclosures and enquiries.
- Engage in tax discussions with newly appointed partners and provide meetings/explanations for retiring partners.
- Assist in preparing partnership tax computations and reviewing corporation tax returns for the operating businesses. This includes analyzing accounting entries, calculating adjusted taxable profits, and capital allowances.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison point on up-to-date legislation, advising on ad-hoc tax-related queries such as withholding tax, employment tax, and VAT.
- Assist with PSA calculations, including expense analysis.
- Help prepare UK VAT returns, review transactions to ensure VAT is correctly applied and claimed.
- Review compliance with IR35 regulations.
- Undertake any required training and take responsibility for self-development.
- Support other Finance department duties as reasonably required.
Essential & Desirable Criteria
- Qualified in ACCA, ACA, CTA, or ATT with at least 5+ years of personal tax experience. Willingness to learn about other taxes is desirable.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and within a team.
- Highly organized and hands-on.
- Good communication skills for dealing with stakeholders and HMRC.
- Experience with CCH, IRIS tax software, and proficient in Excel.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and logical approach.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on relevant tax matters.
- High levels of confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy.
- Flexible and willing to undertake ad hoc projects within the Finance team.
