Lanes Group is recruiting a Vacuum Tanker Operator based in Cardiff to independently operate a vacuum tanker and collect, transport, and dispose of non-hazardous liquid waste across Wales. You will maintain accurate electronic records, perform daily vehicle checks, and ensure health and safety compliance.

The role requires a HGV class 2 licence (max 6 points) and may involve working on drainage and remediation projects with 47.5 hours per week at £15.50 per hour, with overtime paid at enhanced

Responsibilities

  • Independently drive and operate a vacuum tanker, transporting non-hazardous liquids from sites to disposal facilities.
  • Tackle drainage related projects as part of the work.
  • Move treated and untreated waste products and assist with remedial works.
  • Liaise with customers to coordinate collections and deliveries.
  • Update electronic records accurately.
  • Report safety concerns and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Carry out vehicle and jetting equipment checks and routine maintenance.
  • Follow route instructions and use company systems for job allocation.

Department:

Tankering North forms a key part of Lanes Group's wastewater and environmental services offering, providing specialist liquid waste management, tankering, jet-vac, and emergency response services across Northern England and Scotland. Operating from strategically located depots within the wider Lanes network, the division supports utility companies, industrial customers, local authorities, facilities management providers, and commercial businesses with both planned and reactive services.

The team utilises a fleet of high-performance vacuum tankers and jet vac units capable of handling hazardous and non-hazardous liquid waste, sludge, slurry, floodwater, and wastewater. Services range from routine tank emptying and interceptor cleaning through to large-scale emergency spill response and flood relief operations, delivered on a 24/7, 365-day basis.

Purpose of the role:

To independently operate a vacuum tanker and carry out the safe and efficient collection, transportation, and disposal of non-hazardous liquid waste across Wales. The role involves supporting drainage and remediation projects, moving treated and untreated waste products, and delivering a high standard of service to customers. The post holder is responsible for maintaining accurate electronic records, conducting daily vehicle and jetting equipment inspections, reporting any safety concerns, and ensuring all work is completed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Hours:

47.5 per week

Hourly Rate:

£15.50 per hour.

Overtime:

Paid at time and a quarter weekdays, time and a half weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently driving and operating a vacuum tanker, the work incorporates tankering various non-hazardous liquids from sites to disposal facilities
  • Work Projects will include any drainage related issues
  • Moving treated and untreated waste product, assisting with remedial works
  • Liaising with customers
  • Updating electronical records
  • Ensuring safety issues are reported
  • Vehicle and Jetting Equipment checks
  • A phone will outline the navigation for the routes and jobs whilst working.
Key Requirements
Skills & Experience:
  • HGV class 2 driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
Desirable:
  • Valid in date CPC
  • Experience with working with tankers
