Job summary

Lanes Group plc is recruiting a Vacuum Tanker Driver based in Leeds for the Yorkshire Water Tankering division. You will independently operate a vacuum tanker to collect non-hazardous liquid waste across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region, maintaining records and ensuring safety standards.

The role runs on a 4 on 4 off days pattern with an hourly rate of £16.50, and overtime paid at time and a half. Full training will be provided.

Qualifications

• HGV Class 2 driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
• Desirable: CPC valid in date.

Responsibilities

• Independently drive and operate a vacuum tanker to collect and dispose of non-hazardous liquids across Leeds and Yorkshire.
• Support drainage and remediation projects as required.
• Move treated and untreated waste, and assist with remedial works.
• Liaise with customers and update electronic records.
• Perform vehicle and jetting equipment checks and report safety concerns.
• Follow navigation guidance provided for routes and jobs.

Department:

Yorkshire Water Tankering forms a key part of Lanes Group's wastewater and environmental services offering, providing specialist liquid waste management, tankering, jet-vac, and emergency response services across Northern England and Scotland. Operating from strategically located depots within the wider Lanes network, the division supports utility companies, industrial customers, local authorities, facilities management providers, and commercial businesses with both planned and reactive services.

The team utilises a fleet of high-performance vacuum tankers and jet vac units capable of handling hazardous and non-hazardous liquid waste, sludge, slurry, floodwater, and wastewater. Services range from routine tank emptying and interceptor cleaning through to large-scale emergency spill response and flood relief operations, delivered on a 24/7, 365-day basis.

Purpose of the role:

To independently operate a vacuum tanker and carry out the safe and efficient collection, transportation, and disposal of non-hazardous liquid waste across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region. The role involves supporting drainage and remediation projects, moving treated and untreated waste products, and delivering a high standard of service to customers. The post holder is responsible for maintaining accurate electronic records, conducting daily vehicle and jetting equipment inspections, reporting any safety concerns, and ensuring all work is completed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently driving and operating a vacuum tanker, the work incorporates tankering various non-hazardous liquids from sites to disposal facilities across Leeds and Yorkshire
• Work Projects will include any drainage related issues
• Moving treated and untreated waste product, assisting with remedial works
• Liaising with customers
• Updating electronical records
• Ensuring safety issues are reported
• Vehicle and Jetting Equipment checks
• A phone will outline the navigation for the routes and jobs whilst working.

Key Requirements

Skills & Experience:

• HGV class 2 driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points

Desirable:

• Valid in date CPC
• Experience with working with tankers
