Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant in Middlesbrough to support students across KS3–KS5. You will assist teachers, deliver engaging lessons, and provide tailored academic and pastoral support on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

A positive, patient approach and strong communication are essential to helping learners overcome barriers and reach their potential. This role is 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, paid £15–£17 per hour.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a school, education, childcare or youth support setting is desirable.
• Experience with 1:1 and small-group support is beneficial.
• Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK are required or willing to apply.
• Professional references covering the last two years are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support students aged 11-19 across KS3–KS5 settings as required.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and activities.

We are recruiting on behalf of secondary schools across Middlesbrough seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to support students in KS3, KS4 and KS5 settings. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on young people's education, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

About the role:

• Supporting students aged 11-19 across all year groups, depending on your preference and experience.
• Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
• Providing tailored academic and pastoral support on a 1:1 basis.
• Supporting small groups of students, typically between 3-5 pupils.
• Helping to create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
• Encouraging student engagement, confidence and independence in the classroom.

Pay, Hours and Contract:

• Pay: 15 - 17 per hour
• Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
• Contract: Full-time, temporary position with the potential to become permanent
• Start Date: September 2026
• Location: Middlesbrough

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

• Previous experience working in a school, education, childcare, youth work or support-based setting is desirable.
• Teaching Assistant, Supporting Teaching & Learning, childcare or related qualification (preferred but not essential).
• Confident supporting students on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A patient, positive and proactive approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to process a new application.
• Professional child-related or care-related references covering the last two years.
