Job summary

AECOM in the UK is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead Transmission & Distribution design across a varied portfolio. You will oversee multi-disciplinary projects, manage teams, and ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards while working within a hybrid model.

This role offers exposure to flagship programmes such as the UK National Grid Great Grid Partnership and opportunities for client engagement, cost control, and design optimization.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in electrical or power systems engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience in Transmission & Distribution/ renewables/ large infrastructure design with multi-disciplinary scope.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi-discipline projects for UK & Ireland clients.
• Working experience with National Grid & other TSO projects advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee UK & Ireland engineering design projects with Discipline Leads and Directors.
• Act as Technical Project Manager for multi-disciplinary design projects across substation, cables, protection, civils, environmental scopes.
• Lead large programmes like the Great Grid Partnership.
• Manage project lifecycle from concept to completion with safety, sustainability and quality standards.
• Coordinate phases including FEED, environmental assessments, permitting, planning, costing, and detailed engineering.
• Lead project meetings and provide progress updates on costs, schedules and risks.

Education

Degree in electrical or power systems engineering

Chartered ship & LCDAE/CDAE certifications advantageous
