Job summary

Thales Glasgow is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration and verification of mission systems within OME Glasgow. You will coordinate with customers and internal teams to capture requirements and drive IVVQ activities across the lifecycle.

The role requires a strong background in systems engineering, excellent communication skills and a track record of delivering complex, mission-critical defence systems. Security clearance is a key consideration.

  • Develop and implement robust verification and validation programs to ensure compliance with defence standards and operational needs.
  • Act as a key technical interface between stakeholders, providing expert guidance throughout the system development lifecycle.

The successful candidate will be a talented Systems Engineer with experience of conceptual and detailed design, Integration and verification, coupled with a proven capability of delivering mission systems.

The candidate will have demonstrable experience interfacing with internal and external customers, understanding system requirements, working with other design engineers to specify and accept sub system designs as well as creating verification and validation programs in the defence domain.

The role holder reports to the Systems Engineering Discipline Manager.

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer with a strong background in conceptual and detailed design, integration, and verification of mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully delivering complex mission systems within the defence sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, integration, and verification activities for mission systems, ensuring they meet all performance and reliability requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external customers to gather and understand system requirements.
  • Work alongside design engineers to specify, review, and approve subsystem designs.
  • Develop and implement robust verification and validation programs to ensure compliance with defence standards and operational needs.
  • Act as a key technical interface between stakeholders, providing expert guidance throughout the system development lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Experience in the defence domain or similar mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of system engineering principles and best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage complex systems integration and verification projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Essential Skills
  • Proficient in the use of Requirement Management tools (e.g. POLARION)
  • Experience in System design and development of complex hardware and software systems
  • Experience of creating and leading verification and validation programs:
    • establishing the lifecycle, processes and methods
    • Defining the IVVQ strategy
    • Define IVVQ strategy, establishes requirements related to IVVQ activities and perform associated estimates and schedule
    • Coordinate IVVQ activities including trials
    • Establishes priorities within the IVVQ activities and report on risks
    • Perform or organise testing on the manufacturer’s site or at the customer’s premises or at an Environmental Test Facility.
    • Analyse results and produce technical reports
Security Clearance Requirement

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
