Job summary

Thales OME in the UK seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to contribute to systems engineering design activities across defence, space, and digital security projects. The role can be based in Reading or Glasgow, with possible travel to other Thales sites or customer locations.

Responsibilities include defining system requirements, capturing design documentation, specifying interfaces, developing test procedures, and performing integration and verification.

Qualifications

  • Experience in systems engineering design activities for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Proficient in eliciting and analysing system requirements.
  • Ability to define interfaces and external factors impacting design.
  • Familiar with modelling techniques and trade-off analyses.
  • Experience with verification testing and evidence gathering.

  • Define systems requirements for the product and capture design documentation.
  • Define internal and external interfaces and system boundaries.
  • Develop test procedures and perform integration and verification testing.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the design.
  • Peer review technical artefacts and share knowledge with the team.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Systems Engineer within Thales OME, the role can be based in Reading or Glasgow and depending on the specific project role may require some travel and time spent at other Thales sites, Customer sites or integration and test facilities.

As a Senior Systems Engineer you will be able to work autonomously to contribute towards the systems engineering design activities throughout the engineering project involving:

  • Definition of Systems Requirements for the product
  • Creation of design documentation capturing the systems engineering design
  • Definition of the internal and external interfaces of the system
  • Functional definition of system behaviour
  • Development of test procedures to support the verification of the system
  • Carrying out integration and verification testing against test procedures
  • Conducting activities to gather evidence that the systems requirements have been achieved
  • Peer reviewing technical artefacts
  • Supporting the wider engineering team by sharing knowledge

The successful candidate should be a good communicator who is proactive and able to constructively challenge ideas and concepts and have experience in:

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team
  • Defining systems interfaces, boundaries and other external factors that would impact on design
  • Requirements Engineering (elicitation, decomposition and analysis)
  • Analysing the operational concepts of a system

It would be beneficial if the candidate also has:

  • Experience of the decomposition of a systems design to sub-system level
  • Experience or knowledge of systems modelling techniquesExperience of analysing potential solutions against the key needs in a design brief
  • Experience of using design analysis techniques (trade-off analysis, calculations, modelling and simulation, etc.)

This role will report to the Head of Discipline for Systems Engineering and the Engineering Delivery Manager for their project.

Security Clearance Requirement

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years' residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
