Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week/ 70 hours over two weeks (nine-day fortnight)
The role
We are currently looking to recruit a Systems Accountant to join our Financial reporting team here at Housing 21.
Within the role you will maintain key finance systems and help implement new and innovative tools and modules by working in collaboration with subject matter experts and our IT colleagues, to ensure our systems are working to an optimal level.
The Systems Accountant also plays a key role in system upgrades, implementations, and integrations, working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Additionally, the role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring finance systems support best practices, financial controls and regulations, and reporting requirements, while maintaining robust security and governance frameworks.
While the role is home based the successful candidate will be required to attend team meetings including those held at our head office in Birmingham as required.

What we're looking for
The essential requirements for the role include:
- Accounting Standards & Regulations - a basic understanding of FRS 102 and core accounting principles.
- System Implementation and Integration - Experience in system upgrades, new system rollouts, and integrations with other business applications
- Financial Systems Administration & Configuration - Hands-on experience in finance system configuration, maintenance, and reporting, optimising system functionality to meet business needs
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills - A critical thinker with strong analytical skills, capable of identifying and resolving system and data issues efficiently
- Technical Communication & Stakeholder Management - Ability to translate complex system concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical users, bridging the gap between finance and IT teams
- Complex Financial System Environments - Experience working with integrated financial systems with multiple interfaces, managing data flow between feeder systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Project Leadership - Experience in leading or contributing to finance system projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget
- Advanced Excel and SQL Knowledge - Strong proficiency in Excel and SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis Advanced Excel and knowledge of SQL or other data management tools is an advantage
- Power BI - Experience designing and delivering Power BI dashboards and reports, with strong skills in DAX and data modelling
- Financial Systems Management Experience - Proven experience in financial systems management or a similar role within a finance function, with expertise in system administration, configuration, and process optimisation
- Accounting Qualification - AAT qualification to at least level 3 or similar qualification
