Job summary

Thales in Belfast, United Kingdom, is recruiting a System Safety & Environmental Engineer (IAS) to shape safety and certification across complex products. The role is based in Belfast with on-site work, travel, and relocation support for eligible candidates.

You will lead hazard analyses, drive risk reduction, and develop safety cases to support certification and customer confidence. This is a technical systems engineering role, not a NEBOSH-style position, requiring collaboration across

Qualifications

• Academic and professional credentials in Engineering or Science, ideally supported by Chartered status and postgraduate qualifications
• Demonstrated experience leading safety engineering activities within complex engineering programmes
• Proven ability to conduct hazard analysis, risk assessments and safety case development
• Strong knowledge of product safety standards and environmental management principles
• Ability to define and implement sound engineering methodologies for whole-life safety

Responsibilities

• Deliver all Safety & Environmental Management (S&EM) activities across integrated project teams and ensure compliance with the IAS Safety Management System
• Lead hazard analysis, risk assessment and mitigation activities across design, integration, verification and testing
• Provide expert leadership across multidisciplinary teams and embed safety into engineering decisions and lifecycle
• Champion compliance with safety and environmental legislation, standards and governance requirements
• Plan and manage S&EM work packages, estimating effort and producing safety assessments and safety cases
