Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London is currently seeking a Syndicate Reporting Accountant to join the team on a fixed term basis (Maternity Cover). The Finance Syndicate team is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and submission of statutory returns to Lloyd’s and other regulatory reporting (including Solvency II) of AEGIS London. The successful candidate will contribute to process enhancement, systems development and other finance projects, and assist with the development of more junior team members.

Duties And Accountabilities

  • Prepare and review the following Lloyds Regulatory returns: QMA, QMB, SBF, US Situs, Cad Situs, NAIC, TRIA/FIO, Standard Formula, SBF, QSR, QAD, ASR, AAD, QF1, AF1
  • Assist in the preparation of Lloyds tax returns where required
  • Oversight of Syndicate reporting timetable and sign off process for each return
  • Prepare and review the Syndicate Financial Statements
  • Ensure excellent communication is maintained with the external auditors
  • Provide evidence and assistance to external auditors as required
  • Prepare and present financial commentary to management for review and the subgroup of the Assets & Liability Committee explaining results prior to sign off
  • Assist the Syndicate Finance Manager in the Lloyd’s capital setting process, including the annual Syndicate distribution process
  • Assist the Syndicate Finance Manager with the Lloyds reporting rationalisation project
  • Understand the preparation of Syndicate accounting journal process, including the automated ingestion of data from source data systems (e.g Phinsys / Workday). Ensure understanding and challenge of the data
  • Maintain adequate procedures and control environment
  • Ensure excellent communication is maintained with other areas of the finance team as well as actuarial and MI teams
  • Contribute to other finance team projects and developments as required
  • Support and assist the Syndicate Finance Manager

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • Accountant qualified with recognised body (ACCA/ACA/CIMA)
  • Knowledge of insurance accounting within the Lloyd’s insurance market essential
  • Experience with Lloyd’s Core Market Returns website, Market Data Collections website and Lloyd’s overseas reporting systems
  • Strong IT skills, especially Excel. Knowledge of Workday and Phinsys desirable.
  • Experience with Clearwater desirable
  • Strong, clear and well structured written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to build and maintain co-operative relationships with team members and colleagues
