Job summary

Veolia Camden is seeking a Sweeper to join our facilities team. The role involves 37.5 hours per week, based at Camden, with a pay rate of £15.32 per hour. You will perform street sweeping, litter collection and related duties to maintain the cleanliness required by the contract.

Essential skills include good communication and prior sweeper experience; waste experience is desirable. We offer 25 days annual leave, access to a pension, free physiotherapy, retail discounts and health resources,

Qualifications

• Experience as a street sweeper or similar role.
• Ability to work in a team or alone and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manual sweeping of streets and other areas (footways, channels, alleys, subways, around street furniture).
• Receive training to remove dirt, dust, litter, debris and other matter to meet contract standards.
• Ensure gutters are clear and sweepings are not pushed into them; avoid disciplinary action.
• Empty litter bins in your beat and replace liners.
• Report fly-tipping, graffiti, or damaged/missing bins to Foreman.
• Work alone or as part of a team, with or without cleaning machines.
• Complete tasks to schedule and report discrepancies to Foreman/manager.
• Be mindful of Health and Safety at Work Act and follow Safe Working practices.

What you'll be doing;

• Manual sweeping of streets and other areas (which can include footways, channels, alleys, subways, under and around street furniture etc.)
• ou will receive the relevant training, to remove all dirt, dust, litter, excreta, loose chipping, debris, blossom, leaves, vegetation or any other matter whatsoever to achieve the required standard of the contract
• Ensure that all Gully Grids are clear of any obstruction and that sweepings arising are not swept over or pushed down gully grids; such action may lead to disciplinary action.
• Empty litter bins found within your beat, ensuring that the liners are replaced properly.
• Report locations of any fly-tipping, graffiti, fly-posting, or damaged/missing litter bins to your Foreman.
• To work alone or as part of a team with or without the assistance of cleaning machines or as otherwise directed.
• Ensure that the tasks are completed to schedule, and report any discrepancies immediately to your Working Foreman or manager
• Perform duties in an efficient and effective manner that will ensure maximum productivity.
• Be aware of your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 and follow the Code of Safe Working Practice for Street Cleansing
• To ensure that all accidents and near misses that occur during the shift are reported fully to your Foreman/Manager, to the Police if appropriate and that accident/near miss reports are completed before you leave work.
• At the start of each shift and prior to leaving the depot, check your equipment to ensure it is in good condition and exchange damaged or worn-out items. Report anything that needs to be repaired to your Foreman/Manager.
• Responsible of the thorough cleansing of the sweepers' barrow as per the cleansing schedule to maintain a courteous and professional relationship with members of the public, client staff and colleagues
• Attend any training course requested by your Foreman/Manager.
