Job description

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Reading, London

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability Reporting, the Sustainability Manager is responsible for identifying material sustainability issues and impacts in the context of SSE’s business strategy, and supporting the improvement of non-financial disclosures.

An experienced sustainability professional with exceptional collaboration skills will coordinate many colleagues across the Group to ensure SSE’s reputation on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors amongst financial investors is maximised.

The post-holder will support the Head of Sustainability Reporting to work with, and provide expert guidance to, relevant corporate functions and Business Units to act on the next best actions to enhance ESG credentials. The Sustainability Manager will also help ensure that SSE is prepared for upcoming sustainability-related reporting requirements, identifying and advising on the most effective pathway.

You will

- Support the delivery of the annual corporate reporting suite, including the Sustainability Report and Group Annual Report.

- Enhance SSE's ratings in investor ESG surveys, by overseeing the submissions to ESG rating agenciesand identifying improvement areas in ESG disclosures.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues in Finance, Risk and Audit to prepare SSE for upcoming sustainability reporting requirements, including UK Sustainable Disclosure Requirements (SDR).

- Support the successful delivery of the annual external assurance process over SSE’s sustainability-related data.

- Represent SSE in external forums, helping to maintain and build beneficial relationships with key external stakeholders.

You have

- At least three years of experience working within sustainability or the energy sector in either the UK or Ireland.

- A good understanding of key ESG ratings agencies (e.g. S&P's CSA, MSCI, Sustainalytics, CDP)and investors, the trends and developments in this area, and awareness of peer performance.

- Familiarity of reporting frameworksand disclosure requirements, particularly in the UK and Europe (e.g. TCFD, EU CSRD, UK SDR).

- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to positively influence internal and external stakeholders.

- Exceptional communications skills – clarity of thought and an ability to communicate complex issues to a lay audience and senior colleagues.
