Qualifications

  • Practical experience with ESRS.
  • Proven track record validating and assuring large datasets.
  • Experience reviewing and replicating calculations to verify results.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reconciliation and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Support ESRS-aligned sustainability reporting activities.
  • Validate and assure environmental and social data across emissions, energy, water, waste and biodiversity.
  • Collate non-financial information and supporting evidence.
  • Interrogate and verify aggregated datasets and methodologies.
  • Review reporting submissions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Investigate data anomalies and challenge assumptions as needed.
  • Collaborate with contributors to close data gaps and obtain evidence.

  • Support governance, controls and continuous improvement in reporting.

Sustainability Manager
Location: Glasgow HQ (Hybrid)
Client: Scottish Power
Contract: Initial 4-Month Contract (November 2026 - February 2027)
Rate: Negotiable
Engagement: Inside IR35 - PAYE or Umbrella options available

The Role

Scottish Power is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to support a critical sustainability reporting programme during a key reporting period. This role will focus on the collation, validation and interrogation non-financial reporting data, ensuring the quality, accuracy and robustness of sustainability disclosures aligned to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Working across multiple business functions, you will engage with stakeholders up to Director level to gather evidence, challenge data where required, and ensure that reporting outputs are fully supported, traceable and audit-ready. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly analytical sustainability professional with strong carbon accounting, ESG reporting, communication skills and data validation experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of sustainability and ESG reporting activities in line with ESRS requirements.
  • Validate and assure environmental and social performance data across areas including:
    • Greenhouse gas emissions
    • Energy consumption
    • Water management
    • Waste and resource efficiency
    • Biodiversity
    • Pollution prevention
    • Circular economy initiatives
    • Social impact & community benefit
  • Support the collation of relevant non-financial information and related evidence
  • Interrogate, replicate and verify aggregated datasets, supporting evidence and underlying calculation methodologies.
  • Review reporting submissions to ensure completeness, consistency and accuracy.
  • Investigate data anomalies and challenge assumptions where required.
  • Work directly with contributors across the business to close data gaps and obtain supporting evidence.
  • Prepare clear justifications and supporting documentation for reported figures.
  • Support reporting governance, controls and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure reporting outputs are robust, transparent and audit-ready.
Essential Experience
  • Significant experience in sustainability, ESG or non-financial reporting roles.
  • Strong carbon accounting and emissions reporting expertise.
  • Practical experience working with European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
  • Proven track record of validating and assuring large, complex datasets.
  • Experience reviewing and replicating calculations and methodologies to verify reported results.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reconciliation and validation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively with contributors and senior leaders up to Director level.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity and deliver with minimal supervision.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience supporting annual sustainability, ESG or corporate reporting cycles.
  • Knowledge of sustainability assurance or audit processes.
  • Experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure or other regulated sectors.
  • Familiarity with wider sustainability reporting frameworks and disclosure requirements.
