Job summary

Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd in Oxford is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to lead the project’s sustainability strategy on a landmark science and research laboratory development. You will guide embodied carbon, circular economy, biodiversity, and ISO 14001 compliance across design, procurement, and construction teams.

You will own BREEAM UK New Construction Excellent delivery, oversee life-cycle carbon assessments to PAS 2080, and drive opportunities for energy performance and community

Qualifications

• Member of a relevant professional body (ISEP or CIOB), working towards Chartered status.
• Experience providing technical sustainability support to complex construction projects (labs, healthcare, or highly serviced buildings).
• Detailed knowledge of BREEAM New Construction through design and construction, including credit management and evidence.
• Experience of embodied and whole life carbon assessment and PAS 2080.
• Experience of embedding environmental requirements into design and procurement.
• Experience of waste reduction and circular economy on construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead sustainability strategy from preconstruction through construction with the client and design teams.
• Deliver BREEAM UK New Construction Excellent with evidence planning and certification.
• Lead whole life carbon assessment to PAS 2080 and test low-carbon options with Carbon Manager.
• Drive circularity through audits, material reuse, and waste reduction targets.
• Support energy performance, modelling, and on-site renewables for building operations.
• Embed environmental requirements into design, procurement, and supply chain submissions.
• Implement ISO 14001 on site and manage environmental risks and audits.
• Collaborate with Social Value team to deliver employment and community commitments.
• Produce monthly sustainability reporting for client and company performance.
• Upskill project staff and supply chain via inductions and toolbox talks.
