Job summary

Breedon Group is seeking two Surfacing Operatives for Inverness-area road surfacing and highway maintenance projects. You will join a skilled crew to lay and finish asphalt safely, with night shifts required and travel to sites across Inverness and Elgin.

Full training is provided as you develop new skills and progress within Breedon’s operations and maintenance team. A competitive salary and benefits package accompany the role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laying, raking, levelling and finishing asphalt.
• Support operation of surfacing plant, tools and equipment.
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties.
• Work with Foreperson and surfacing squad to complete projects safely.
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant and PPE.
• Follow site instructions and company procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Report safety concerns, incidents or defects promptly.
• Work across different sites and shifts, including nights.

Position Overview: We are looking for two reliable and motivated Surfacing Operatives to join our surfacing team. In this hands-on role, you will support the delivery of road surfacing and highway maintenance projects, working as part of a skilled crew to lay and finish asphalt safely and efficiently.

This role involves working outdoors, travelling to sites, and operating as part of a team to ensure work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety. Nightshift working is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials
• Support the operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties before, during, and after surfacing works
• Work closely with the Foreperson and wider surfacing squad to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE
• Follow site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures at all times
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required
